The movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is premiering on January 3, and ahead of its release, Samsung has unveiled Sonic-branded microSD cards in four different storage capacities. Dubbed Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD cards, these memory cards are said to be more durable than regular microSD cards, and also offer a peak read and write speed of 180 MB/s and 130 MB/s, respectively.
“With the Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD cards, we’re combining the franchise’s instantly recognizable characters with the speed and reliability of Samsung PRO Plus microSDs to give your gear the ultimate Sonic boost,” said Jim Kiczek, vice president of memory marketing at Samsung Electronics America.
The Samsung Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD cards come in four storage options: 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Each variant features a Hedgehog character and is priced at $23.99, $36.99, $68.99, and $125.99, respectively. They will be available for purchase in early 2025.
The 128 GB variant features a red icon of Knuckles, while the 256 GB and the 512 GB variants feature Tails in yellow and a blue Sonic icon, respectively. Lastly, the 1 TB variant has a Shadow icon in black.
Besides their best-in-class read/write speed, these microSD cards are also rugged and can survive drops of over 4.8 meters. They are also water-resistant and can survive even when submerged in three per cent salt water at a 1-meter depth for up to 72 hours. Samsung is backing this claim with a 10-year limited warranty.
